Kauai Juice Co.

I've been following Kauai Juice Co. on Instagram for a awhile now so when we landed in Kauai two weeks ago, it was our first stop. First of all, their newly opened shop in Kapaa is absolutely adorable. I love the all white decor and jars of kombucha and fermenting hot sauce out for display.
The cold pressed juice itself is incredible but so is the booch and other delectables. Needless to say, we spent a lot of money there over the week. I even ended up purchasing some tanks and t-shirts, glass jars, and a bunch of homemade hot sauce to bring home with me. Check out their cute website HERE.

Delicious Fermented Sambal, Fermented Mango-Ghost pepper, Kiawe, and Guava Habenero Hot Sauce. All are amazing.

Kauai Staycation

I've lived on this tiny archipelago in the middle of the Pacific for almost 16 years now. Maui, is where I landed (after a brief stint in American Samoa) and Maui is where I have stayed. Yes, I've spent some time Oahu, The Big Island, Kauai and even Lanai, but never really enough time to get a proper feel for them. At least not since I've lived in Hawaii.
So for the first time in a long time, Carlos and I decided to forgo some exotic international vacation that requires visas and shots and just stay home. Instead of another 10+ hour flight, we chose to head over to the Garden Isle in a local puddle jumper.  So glad we decided to do this. Kauai's the real deal. Still so raw, wild and absolutely breathtaking. Hope it's not another two decades before we get back.

Spicy Pear Juice

Love all the fall fruits popping up everywhere. It always feels like a treat to see pomegranates, fresh dates, persimmons, and tons of pears in the grocery stores on my tropical island. As much as I love our local exotics, it's always nice to experiment a couple of months of the year with some seasonal fruit from elsewhere.

I just returned from Kauai and got super inspired to start juicing ( a lot ) again after I ran into Kauai Juice Co.  What an incredible thing they got going on over there on the Garden Isle! I'll do a post on this little Kapaa gem soon.

One of our favorite blends from the Kauai Juice Co, was a seasonal pear + cinnamon + maca juice. This was sweet, spicy and very warming. Everything I love about food during the fall season.
Anyway, I couldn't wait to make a cold-pressed pear juice myself.

The Spicy Pear
makes 2 - 16 oz juices
I used an Omega Vert 350 juicer for this recipe.

5 large organic pears
1" sliced fresh ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla powder

Divide and place cinnamon and vanilla powder at the bottom of 2-16 oz jars. Juice pears and ginger. Fill jars until about 1/3 full, Twist on lid and shake until powered spices have blended with the juice. Fill jars with the remaining juice and shake again.
Fresh cold-pressed juices should keep up to 72hrs in the fridge.
