Updates

Here's a little word of advice for you Mainlanders out there.......Don't come to Hawaii in July. It sucks.

Okay, I feel better now saying it out loud. I'm exhausted. It's busy ( yes, that's good. Busy = $ ) However, I'm still counting the days until Labor Day......

So, No real need to get into much detail explaining my 2 week absence. I just didn't feel there was much of a need to post the same green juice and sandwich I've been eating almost daily. To be honest I'm having a very hard time finding balance right now during this busy summer. How can I manage my time before and after work? I have not found the answer yet. Obviously.

On a positive note: I've been working out a lot. I've found that this is the best way to clear my head after a 10+ hour work day. Whether it be SUPing, surfing or hitting the elliptical machine I've managed to sweat for at least an hour almost every day after work instead of downing pau hanas.

Here are some highlights from my busy July 2010.....
Joy's Place Kale Chips!
OMG! These are amazing! They seriously taste just like Cheeze-Its but they are local, raw and super healthy!
It's still Mango season!
And I've been busy making mango everything.....
Raw Pecan and Mango Tarts
Raw Mango Pudding
Raw Vegan Mango Sorbet
Several Dinners from the Honokowai Farmer's Markets Salad Bar

Burrata Cheese from Mala's Ocean Tavern ( swoon.....)

More Greek Salads from Lahaina Coolers

Pre-made Green Juice when I was too lazy to make my own.....

Some failed experiments with the Excalibur....( FYI Taj no like....)
I'm thinking I need to adjust my dehydrating times to go with the higher humidity right now.
My attempt to make zucchini wraps :-( boo

Lots of Green Juice and Super Food Smoothies....

And some classic Maui Sunsets....
See you soon.
Aloha..........

Saturday in Hawaii

Aloha!
I have a bunch of Gardenias growing in the yard. Aren't they pretty:-)

We had perfect conditions this morning for SUPing so Carlos and I headed south of Lahaina to take the boards out for a  spin.
Check out my new board and paddle! Aren't they pretty!!
Love my new carbon Kialoa paddle!

We ended up SUPing for over 2 hours and even caught some teeny waves! Perfect!

Lunch
And for a Cranberry and Blueberry Vodka at noon!
After all.....It was 5 o'clock somewhere right?
Sometimes we like to pretend we are on vacation on Maui too.
Yummy "Cooler's" warm bread.
And an purple orchid dressed Greek Salad....
BTW- "Coolers" has the best Greek Salad on island me thinks.

As soon as we got home Carlos grabbed Taj and passed out......I guess after a couple hours of intense sun + 3 Crown and Cokes that might happen. I however practiced a bit more self control ( wink ) and was able to spend the remainder of the afternoon getting a much needed pedicure.

Late afternoon snack....
Baked Pumpkin and Ginger Egg Roll
I made these a few weeks ago and threw them in the freezer. I used a mix of Organic Pumpkin Puree, Cayenne Pepper, and Ginger People's Ginger Jam. I then rolled them up burrito style with egg roll wrappers and tossed them in the freezer for easy preparation.
( baked at 350 for roughly 20 minutes )

( Dried Tuberose Lei )

After my pedicure I stopped at Hale Zen in Lahaina and found the most fabulous buttery leather bag....
The brand is Lilla Lane by Thora Moss.
Cute ya?
It's from Indo........

And while I'm at it I want to show you this gorgeous pink carved shell and silver ring I found in Makawao last week at Collections.
Luv.

Anyway......

Dinner
Roasted Veggies
Molokai Potatoes ( purple )
Okinawan Potatoes
Yam
Gala Apple
Local Kula Carrots
Reduced Balsamic, Sea Salt, Olive Oil, Cumin and Red Pepper Flakes
Citrus, Mint and Date Couscous
Soooooo good!
I'm stuffed......heading to the couch to read the book "Hawaii" for the 50 millionth time....
Aloha!

Salads, ( lack of ) Surf and a SUP Board

Green Juice
 1 Lb Local Organic Kale
1 peeled Local Lemon
1 peeled Organic Cucumber
2 Gala Apples
2" peeled Local Fresh Ginger

Good Morning!
It's so nice having the day off an being able to sleep in until 8 am! I hate getting up so early everyday.....It's not like I've ever been one to sleep all morning long even if I can ( like my sister ) however for me, there is a HUGE difference between 6:15 and 7:30. I'm just saying........
Anyway
The weather was NOT cooperating with me at all this morning. I was DYING to go surf however by the time I got to town the wind had turned onshore and blew out any tiny wave that dared show a face. So uncool.
So, I decided to take my mini longboard out to Airport Beach for a nice paddle instead.
Unusually Sunny, flat and Tradewind free at Airport Beach?! Perfect for paddling.
I paddled all the way down to the point ( Black Rock ) and back. It took exactly 30 minutes at a fast steady pace.

Next!
The Gym....
30 minutes/hills level 6 on the Elliptical machine
200 abdominal crunches

Lunch
I can't even explain in words how freaking amazing Sweet White Kula Corn is. I'm assuming that it is totally unavailable to you Mainlanders and I am truly sorry for that because raw Kula Corn just might be one of my most favorite things in the world!
Carlos and I made Veggie Tosadas last night and I decided to make my Guacamole with a cup of Fresh Raw Kula Corn and OMG!
Kula Guac
1 Cup Raw White Kula Corn
3 Hass Avocados
1/2 tsp Cumin
Juice of 1 Tahitian Lime
Salt to taste
Red Pepper Flakes

Not my usual Guac but oh sooooo good!
I decided to use the leftovers from last night and a make a super yummy salad for lunch.

Salad
Romaine
Kula Corn
Olowalu Roma Tomatoes
Braggs Vinaigrette with Agave and Lemon Juice
And a TON of Crystal Hot Sauce!

Then off to Hi-Tech Surf in Kahalui to pick up my NEW SUP Board and Paddle!!!
(Pics are coming...)

I'm so excited! It's soooooooooo pretty! Just wait until you see!

Dinner

Kahalui = Whole Foods Salad Bar ( Obviously )
And YES that's a huge mound of croutons and Feta cheese and it was fabulous....

Salad
Romaine
Vegan Caesar
Hummus
Dolmas
Artichokes Salad
Kalamata Olives
Tomatoes
Marinated Mushrooms
Feta
Croutons
Tabouli
= $12.43 oops...
I have to admit I never finish these things.....My eyes are ALWAYS bigger than the stomach!

Anyway
Off to bed now....Carlos and I have an early paddle in the a.m.
xo A

P.S.
I had the most AMAZING massage and facial yesterday at Spa Soleil Luna in Lahaina. I saw massage therapist and esthetician Micaela. I'm still Maui Zen Spa's #1 fan but Spa Soleil Luna proved to be much better the second time around :-)

Encore

After taking care of some work related business this morning Carlos and I headed out the door for a surf check....
I actually ate 2 of these on the way down ( they are pretty small ) and I'm really glad I did because we ended up surfing for several hours just south of Lahaina Town and didn't eat lunch until 2pm! Ugh!
Vegan Green Papaya Salad
Look familiar? Thai Chef was so perfect yesterday I thought it deserved a repeat.
We also shared an order of raw Veggie Summer Rolls which were perfectly light and tangy as always!

Sorry but I was unable to shoot a pic of Carlos's fabulous looking Chicken Penang Curry. He literally inhaled the thing.

Dinner
Spicy Cucumber and Pineapple Gazpacho ( from Raw Food Real World )
topped with Macadamia Nut Oil, Local Avocado, Cilantro and Red Pepper Flakes

Before saying goodnight and heading back to work tomorrow (after 5 days off...sigh) I found this little questionnaire in Erin's always amusing blog, "Living and Loving in L.A."

Surf. Finally.

I finally scored some real surf today....and I'm not kidding, I truly scored. I drove for about an hour searching for any wave that was not being beat up by the relentless "Trades"...... At about 11 am my stomach began to rumble ( because I forgot breakfast ) so I decided to give up and call "Thai Chef" to place a take-away order. Then out of nowhere the wind turned off! So I raced into Lahaina Town, grabbed my lunch, ate ( really fast ) and caught about 50 glassy waves in the Puamana area.

Vegan Green Papaya Salad

After my long surf I had a second lunch.......
Citrus and Kale Quinoa Salad from the Farmer's Market in Honokowai.
( Curly Kale, Purple Cabbage, Corn, Cashews, Zucchini, Fennel Seeds, Orange Juice )

Random late afternoon shots......

Dinner was quick and easy.....
Carlos and I both wanted something light so we threw together a nice Greek Salad using chopped Romaine, Chick Peas, Kalamata Olives, Tomatoes, Feta, Lemon Juice, Braggs Vinaigrette Dressing....

Passing out now.
See you soon!
Aloha
